What junk removal companies won't take

Junk removal companies won't take hazardous materials: paint and solvents, motor oil and automotive fluids, propane tanks, pesticides and chemicals, asbestos, medical/biohazard waste, and often car tires. These need special handling and are usually banned from regular disposal. The good news is most have free municipal Household Hazardous Waste drop-off — so you're not stuck, you just can't put them in the truck.
Anything hazardous is off-limits for a standard junk crew, for safety and legal reasons. That's paint, stains and solvents; motor oil, antifreeze and automotive fluids; propane and other pressurised tanks; garden chemicals and pesticides; asbestos (needs a licensed abatement contractor); and biohazard or medical waste. Many companies also skip car tires or charge separately because of specific disposal rules.
None of this means you're stuck with it. Toronto and the surrounding municipalities run free Household Hazardous Waste depots for paint, chemicals, oil and the like. Propane tanks go back to exchange points. Tires are often taken free at retailers under Ontario's tire stewardship program. A good junk company will tell you exactly where each item goes rather than just refusing it — that's the honest version.
