Why electronics can't go in the garbage
Electronics are covered by Ontario's e-waste rules and are not accepted in household garbage anywhere in the province. They contain materials, metals, glass, and some hazardous components, that need to be separated and handled properly rather than landfilled.
Where they actually go
Approved recyclers dismantle devices and recover the metals, plastics and glass for reuse. Data-bearing devices should be wiped first, recycling is not the same as certified data destruction, so remove or wipe hard drives before handing over a computer.
